Privacy Policy
Last Updated: April 7, 2026
Overview
Elvean prioritizes your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy describes how the Elvean macOS application collects, uses, and safeguards your information.
Consent
By downloading or using the Elvean app, you consent to the collection and storage of information as described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
- Local Storage: All chat data, conversation history, preferences, and files you attach are stored locally on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded to Elvean's servers.
- API Keys & Credentials: API keys you enter for third-party AI services are stored securely in the macOS Keychain on your device. They are never transmitted to Elvean.
- Crash Reports: Anonymous crash data may be collected via Sentry, a third-party error tracking service, to help us improve app stability. This may include device model, OS version, app version, and stack traces. No personally identifiable information is included. You can disable this in Settings. See Sentry's Privacy Policy.
- Usage Analytics: Anonymous, non-identifying usage data may be collected to improve the app experience. This can be disabled in Settings.
- Purchases: Subscriptions and purchases are processed entirely through Apple's StoreKit. Elvean does not collect or store payment information. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
2. Data Shared with Third-Party AI Services
Elvean connects to AI services that you choose and configure. Elvean acts as a client — we do not operate, intercept, or store any data sent to these services. The data shared depends on whether you use local or cloud-based AI models.
Local AI Models (e.g., Ollama)
When you use local models, no data leaves your device. All processing happens entirely on your Mac.
Cloud-Based AI Services
When you use a cloud-based AI provider, the following data is transmitted directly from your device to that provider's servers:
- Message content: The text of your conversation messages (prompts and replies)
- Attached files: Any images, documents, or files you include in a conversation
- System prompts: Any custom instructions or system prompts configured for the conversation
- Conversation context: Prior messages in the conversation thread, as needed for the AI to generate a response
This data is sent only to the specific provider you have configured and selected for a given conversation. Elvean supports the following third-party AI service providers:
- Anthropic (Claude) — Privacy Policy
- OpenAI (GPT, o-series) — Privacy Policy
- Google (Gemini) — API Terms
- xAI (Grok) — Privacy Policy
- Groq — Privacy Policy
- Cerebras — Privacy Policy
- OpenRouter — Privacy Policy
- Other OpenAI-compatible APIs: If you configure a custom API endpoint, data is sent to that endpoint. You are responsible for reviewing that provider's privacy practices.
Important: Each provider's own privacy policy and terms of service govern how they handle data received from Elvean. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any provider you configure.
The Elvean app requests your explicit consent before sending any data to a cloud-based AI service. You can review and change your configured providers at any time in the app's Settings.
3. Voice & Audio
Elvean's voice mode uses Apple's Speech Recognition framework to convert speech to text. When you use voice input, audio data may be sent to Apple's servers for processing. Apple's standard privacy terms apply to this data. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
Voice input is only activated when you explicitly trigger it. No audio is recorded, stored, or transmitted to Elvean or any other party.
4. Web Search
When you enable web search tools (such as Serper, Google Search, Brave Search, or Jina), your search queries are sent directly from your device to those services' APIs. This is independent of the AI provider you are using. Each search service's own privacy policy governs how they handle your queries:
- Serper — Privacy Policy
- Google Search API — Privacy Policy
- Brave Search — Privacy Policy
- Jina AI — Privacy Policy
5. MCP Server Connections
Elvean supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which allows you to connect to third-party MCP servers. When you configure an MCP server connection:
- Data may be transmitted to the third-party MCP server as part of tool calls and context retrieval
- OAuth tokens or other credentials used to authenticate with MCP servers are stored securely in the macOS Keychain
You are responsible for reviewing the privacy practices of any third-party MCP servers you connect to. Elvean does not control or monitor the data handling practices of third-party MCP servers.
6. Third-Party Services
In addition to the AI providers listed above, Elvean integrates with the following third-party services:
- Sentry (crash reporting) — Collects anonymous crash and diagnostic data to help us improve app stability. See Sentry's Privacy Policy.
- Tawk.to (in-app support chat) — When you use the support chat feature, your chat messages and any information you provide are transmitted to Tawk.to's servers. See Tawk.to's Privacy Policy.
7. How Information Is Used
We use the information we collect to:
- Improve the performance, stability, and user experience of the app
- Respond to support inquiries
8. Data Retention
All conversation data and preferences are stored locally on your device. You can delete this data at any time by removing it from the app or uninstalling Elvean.
9. Your Rights
You have the right to access, export, and delete your data. Elvean provides the following controls:
- Data Export: You can export your conversation data from within the app.
- Data Deletion: You can delete all locally stored data using the "Clear All Data" option in Settings, or by uninstalling the app.
- Opt-Out: You can disable crash reporting and usage analytics at any time in Settings.
If you have questions about exercising your rights or need assistance, please contact us.
10. Security
We use reasonable measures to protect your data. API keys and credentials in the Elvean app are stored securely using the macOS Keychain. However, no system is entirely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Policy Updates
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
